The Annual Dam Scramble Trail Challenge in August

6th Annual Dam Scramble Trail Challenge August 22, 2015

The annual Dam Scramble Trail Challenge is an endurance trail challenge at the Curwensville Lake Recreation Area that includes three courses: 16 mi, 11 mi, or 5K. The majority of the course will be on single-track trails through the woods with many beautiful views of Curwensville Lake. Hills abound to get the heart pumping while leaving plenty of runnable surface. We’re also proud that our longer distance courses are a part of the 2015 Trail Runner Trophy Series with such great events as the Hyner View Challenge, Mile Run, Dam Half/Full, and Rothrock Trail Challenge!

Course Description and Map

We want you to have a challenging and rewarding “scramble” around the lake! While the challenge welcomes both hikers and runners, this will not be your average “walk in the woods” so please only attempt the longer courses if you are sufficiently trained. Our 5K will only be 3.1 miles of well used trails at the lake and will be a better option for the average hiker.

Race Day Details

  • Registration on race day (Sat. August 22rd) will begin at 7:00AM at Pavilion #2 at Curwensville Lake, click here to see their pavilion map. Pavilion #2 is not the same pavilion we have used in past years. This pavilion is closer to the beach area not far from where we were last year. We’ll be sure to have signs pointing you in the right direction on race day! Participants will also be able to register the day before (Fri. August 21st) at the Conservation District Office at 511 Spruce Street, Suite 6, Clearfield, PA 16830 from 2-6PM. A map of the office location can be found on our Contact Us page.
  • There is a MANDATORY pre-race meeting at 8:20AM at Pavilion #2 adjacent to the Start line for all participants.
  • The 16 and 11 mile runners will start at 8:30AM from Pavilion #2 with the 5K runners starting shortly thereafter. The Finish line for all courses will also be at this location.
  • Food will be available following the race and each participant will receive their finisher’s medal after crossing the Finish line.

Camping is available at the lake for tents and campers. Please visit Curwensville Lake for more information or call 1-800-326-9051 for fees and reservations.

Boating & Fishing access are also available at the Lake. There are no horsepower restrictions so bring your boat and your fishing gear and take to the water via the marina. There are also plenty of areas to fish from the shore, as well as, a handicapped accessible fishing area near the marina.

Swimming is available at the beach area near Pavilion #5; however, no life guard will be on duty so it is swim at your own risk. Bring your suit and relax on the beach or jump in after the race to cool off!

Come and enjoy all that Curwensville Lake has to offer. There are plenty of activities that will allow you to have a fun-filled weekend!
